Margaret Ragnhild Rasmussen, age 88 years, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 30, 2015 in Roseview Manor, with family by her side. She had been in declining health for some time.

Margaret was born January 9, 1927 in Port Arthur. She attended local schools and went on to become a teacher after attending Normal School in North Bay. She began teaching in Dorion and then at Queen Elizabeth School. Later, she became a resource teacher at George Jeffrey Children’s Centre. She took great pleasure and pride in her work with children.

Margaret met Bent Rasmussen and they married in August 16, 1952. Together they raised a large family. She was a natural nurturer. When she wasn’t cooking, sewing, knitting or baking she pursued her interest in the arts, music, and reading. She loved singing in the church choir and was a long-standing member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church. Together with her Knutson family members, she delved into her Norwegian heritage, learning the language and traditional handicrafts of knitting, Hardanger embroidery, felting and woodcarving.

She is survived by her children Carol (Garry), Laurel, Melinda, Christopher (Doneta), Stephen, Andrea (Daren), Alison (Mitchell), Melissa (Mark), Peter (Jacalyn), 19 grandchildren, sisters Betty (Ken MacAskill), Irene (George Hartviksen), brothers Walter, Robert (Marilyn), Edward Knutson, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband Bent Rasmussen, parents John and Jenny Knutson, brothers Ralph, Norman, Ken Knutson, sisters-in-law Wilhemena, Priscilla, Dorothy, Marlene Knutson, mother-in-law Kristine Rasmussen, brother-in-law Ib Rasmussen and sister-in-law Jean Zaharuk.

Funeral services for the late Mrs. Margaret Rasmussen will be held on Friday, August 7, 2015 at 11:00am in Our Saviour's Lutheran Church officiated by Rev. Matthew Diegel. Private interment has taken place in Riverside Cemetery.

it sings because it has a song.”
