It is with profound sadness the family of the late Margaret Walters announce her passing on January 5, 2017.

Grandma was born in Biddulph Township on March 22, 1923 to the late Leo and Veronica Mitchell. After high school she went to work at General Steel Works as a welder for the war factory.

In London she met and married Wilbert Ernest (Jack) Walters on October 18, 1947. During their marriage his military career took them to Brockville, Petawawa Military Camp, London, Soest Germany, Grand Bend, Oakville and finally ended up in Thunder Bay, which Grandma thought was the end of the earth, until they visited Red Lake.

She changed her mind then and was happy to make Thunder Bay their home when Jack retired from the military. Grandma worked for 22 years at Sears where she met many great people, staff and customers both. Her main interests were her family, her church and her friends and of course the casino.

Most weekdays she could be found attending noon mass at either St. Agnes or Corpus Christi, followed by coffee at McDonalds. She devoted her time to everything her grandchildren were interested in. This included modelling, ringette, ski jumping and music.

She enjoyed travelling in the motorhome all over Canada and the United States to the old time fiddling contests. She was Grandma Kay to all the neighbourhood children as well as all her friends and relatives. They all knew the rules.

There were two ways of doing things – Grandma’s way or the wrong way!  She always had time for her grandchildren and her great grandchildren and told them we were all angels in training. Grandma has now finished her training. Peace, love you Grandma! She will be sadly missed by son Robert (Connie), Grandson Robert (Mark),Granddaughters Kristi McLeod, Dawn (Jeffrey) Martyniuk and great grandsons Luke, Noah and Nate Martyniuk.

Predeceased by husband Wilbert (Jack) 1988, brothers Vernard, Leo, Clarence, Thomas and Harvey, sisters Marie, Lauretta and Bernice. Funeral Mass to be held at Holy Family Church on Rosslyn Road at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 9, 2017 with reception to follow at Valhalla Inn. Private family interment to be held later at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Heart And Stroke Foundation.
