Maria Clementina Tavares, age 93 years, died peacefully at Hogarth Riverview Manor Thursday, July 13, 2017.
Clementina was born and raised in Rosario Lagoa, Sao Miguel, Azores, Portugal. She came to Canada in 1968 with her Mother, settling in Winnipeg to be near her sister Valentina and her family.
Clementina was an accomplished seamstress and worked for a number of years at her profession. She also enjoyed crocheting, gardening and spending time with family. Clementina was a lay member of the Order of Carmelite Sisters. While living in Winnipeg, she was very involved in her church, Immaculate Conception.
In 2006, she moved to Thunder Bay to be closer to family again. Clementina is lovingly remembered by her brother in law Carlos Da Rocha, Thunder Bay; nephew, Carlos Da Rocha and wife Maureen, Thunder Bay; niece, Anna and husband Monty Johnston, Edmonton; grand nieces Jordan Marie (Adrian), Kathleen and great niece Kyrie; as well as other nieces and nephews in Canada.
She was predeceased by her parents, Joao and Filismina Tavares, her sister Valentina Da Rocha and four brothers.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 19, 2017 when family and friends will gather for a Funeral Mass in St. Anthony's Church at 11:00 a.m. celebrated by Rev. Luigi Filippini. Interment will follow at St. Andrew's Cemetery. Visitation will take place on Tuesday, July 18th from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Sargent and Son Funeral Home with prayers to commence at 7:00 p.m. If friends desire, memorials to St. Joseph's Foundation of Thunder Bay or the Alzheimer Society would be appreciated.
