Mrs. Maria (Mary) Kmeco, age 84, a resident of Thunder Bay, died peacefully at her home on Saturday, April 28th, 2018, surrounded by family. Born in Sobrance, Slovakia, on November 8th, 1933, Maria came to Canada with her husband Stefan (Steve), originally residing in Toronto, and later residing in Fort William. Before starting her family Maria worked at McKellar Hospital. Her favorited hobbies included cooking and baking traditional European cuisine, as well as shopping, but what she enjoyed most was spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Maria will be lovingly remembered by her son Peter (Darlene Dore) Kmeco of Ottawa, daughters Mary (Gary) Renner of Thunder Bay, and Debbie Cooney of Thunder Bay, along with her five grandchildren, Sophie and Daphnie Kmeco, Christy Renner and husband Eric Osvath, Alan Renner and Samantha Cooney, and great grandchildren Norah and Ayden Osvath. She was predeceased by her parents Michael and Maria Tomco, her brother Jan Tomco, husband Stefan, and other relatives in Slovakia.
Upon her wishes, her ashes will be buried aside her loving husband Stefan at Mountainview Cemetery during a private family service at a later date. Her family would like to thank the following health care providers for the numerous years of caregiving: family Dr. Habjan and assistant Shelly for over 30 years, palliative care Dr. Simpson and nurse Sara, palliative care Dr. Garon, VON nurse Jennifer, all ParaMed home care nurses, and Safeway (Arthur Street) pharmacists Marcia and Donna.

Maria Kmeco will be remembered in the Blake Funeral Chapel Memorial Grove. Annual dedication service Sunday, June 9, 2019.
