It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Maria Lukie, age 93 years, on Saturday, May 30, 2015.

Maria was born to the late Michael and Haska Iwachewski on May 14, 1922 in Port Arthur.

In her younger years she worked at Woolworth's and then at Canadian Car during World War II as one of the “Rosie the Riveters”.

She married Michael Lukie in 1950 and together they raised a family of 4 sons and 1 daughter. Maria enjoyed cooking for her family and was an avid gardener. She loved to read, classical music, doing needlework and puzzle books. She was a member of the Catholic Women's League at the Church of the Holy Protection.

Maria is survived by her children; Michael (Pamela), John (Karen), Robert (Lee), James (Maureen) and Elizabeth (Barry) Hutt, 12 grandchildren; Amanda, Melissa and Stuart; Ryan, Adam and Michelle; Angela and Christina Lukie; Maxwell, Eve, Palmer and Maria Hutt. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Maria was predeceased by her husband Michael in 1981, also by her sisters; Anne and Josephine and her brothers; Peter, Nick, Anthony, Steven and Fred.

Funeral Services for the late Mrs. Maria Lukie will be held on Friday, June 5, 2015 with family and friends meeting at The Exaltation of the Holy Cross Ukrainian Catholic Church, Victoria Avenue, for Divine Liturgy offered at 10:00 am celebrated by Fr. Andrija Petresin. Interment will follow in St. Andrew's Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday evening from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm in the Westfort Chapel, with Panachyda (Prayers) offered at 7:00 pm in the Chapel.

Should friends so desire, donations made in memory of Maria to the Canadian Diabetes Association of Northwestern Ontario would be greatly appreciated.
