The family is sad to announce the passing of our mother and grandmother Marie Anderson (nee Wray) at her residence on March 4, 2017 at the age of 83 years.

Marie grew up in Thorold, Ontario across from the Welland Canal. She attended Teacher’s College in Hamilton and started teaching high school at the age of eighteen.

She was an avid athlete in her younger years. She was a swimmer, lifeguard and basketball player.

Marie met her husband Bill in Sault Ste. Marie, and from there had moved to Sudbury where she had two daughters. Then they moved to Thompson in 1960 and had their third daughter. Mom always supported her daughters’ involvement in sports, the arts, and horses. Marie continued her teaching career until their move to Thunder Bay in 1975. Later on they started to build their dream cottage at Fairbank Lake, where they spent many summers with extended family and friends.

Marie loved to entertain and have family dinners as she was a fabulous cook. She was known for her love of bridge, crosswords and reading mystery novels. Marie recently was inducted into The Hall of Fame for her athleticism in basketball. She also volunteered her time in tutoring many people.

She is survived by daughters Sherry (Mike) Iwaszkiw of Winnipeg, Cindy (Seppo) Lamppu, and Cathy Marchese of Thunder Bay; grandchildren James, Darryll (Johnathon), Ryan (Vanessa), Alex (Chantal), Chelsey (Steve), and Shane. Marie was predeceased by her husband Bill in 2002.

We would like to thank her good friends Liz, Peggy and Joan for their friendship and many fun afternoons playing bridge. A special heartfelt thank you to her homemaker Judy Nisbet; you went above and beyond, Mom loved you! Thank you to Dr. MiGay and to Sherice at the Wound Clinic, you guys were awesome. Thank you to all the nurses who came to her home, you were greatly appreciated. We would also like to thank Dr. J. Edwards and Tiffany for your care. Thank you to the first responders who were so kind and caring. Finally,  we would also like to thank everyone else who has supported Marie in the past few years.

If friends so desire, donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or a charity of choice in Marie’s memory would be greatly appreciated.
