Marilyn Hicklin

It is with broken hearts that we announce the unexpected passing of our cherished mother and grandmother,  Marilyn Georgina Hicklin, on May 29, 2022, age 78.

Born in Oxford England, Marilyn moved to Calgary Alberta as a young child and then to Thunder Bay in 1972.  Here, Marilyn independently and self-sacrificingly raised “her boys” Rob and Jim.  Marilyn is survived by her sons and grandchildren, Rob (Adena; grandchildren Cameron and Karli) and Jim (Deanna; grandchildren Taylor and Olivia), sister-in-law Vicki Howard, nieces and nephew Allison Currie, Sarah Sowell, and Sean Howard and their respective families.  Marilyn is also continuing to be remembered by her beloved extended family across the globe.  She was predeceased by her parents, Bert and Evelyn Howard, and her younger brothers John and Barry.

Marilyn was a very active and awarded member of her community.  She worked for 29 years at the Thunder Bay Correctional Centre where she rose to be the office manager.  Her true passion was volunteering, and she served on many boards and committees throughout her lifetime.  Some of the many include Thunder Bay Minor Hockey (Hornets and Beavers) and Thunder Bay Community Bingo (turned Superior Shores Gaming Association).  She was also a worthy matron of the Eastern Star, driving force with the Lady Liberals, active member of the Thunder Bay chapter of T.O.P.S.  In recent years, Marilyn became a member of The Evangel Church and was an active participant in Bible study.

Marilyn enjoyed her retirement by travelling the world and she never passed up an opportunity to scratch a destination off her bucket list.  She enjoyed these travels with her closest friends and family from far and wide.  Marilyn was an incredibly generous and selfless woman.  Without hesitation, she gave her time and love to her family and countless friends who will dearly miss her.  The loss of Marilyn will forever leave a hole in the hearts of her family, friends, and community.
