It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Marilyn Groombridge (nee Zweep) on May 5, 2023 at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre ICU with family by her side. Mom was the eldest of three daughters born to Peter and Clara Zweep.

Mom worked at the Times Journal where she met our father Harold Groombridge. Dad asked mom to dance at one of the Times Journal parties and a romance began. They were married on December 7, 1956 and raised three children.

Mom went back to work and was employed at the Fort William Clinic, first in accounting and then as a doctor’s assistant for the surgeons until she retired.

Mom enjoyed doing her petit-point, needle-point, crocheting and especially dancing Thursday nights with dad.

Mom is survived by her three children David, Debbie (Bob) and Peter (Tammy). She is also survived by her grandchildren, Steven and Riley, Bobbi-Lee and Chris and Shanna and Jayden as well as her great-grandchildren, Austin, Angel, Morgan, Claire, Jude and her newest great-grandchild Jillian.

She was predeceased by her husband (Harold) on Sept. 4, 2022, her parents Peter and Clara, sisters Dorothy and Mona, mother and father-in-law William and Catherine Groombridge and daughter-in-law Julie.

The family would like to express a special thank you to the outstanding nurses and doctors at the TBRHSC ICU department, as well as at St. Joseph’s Hospital.

Mom will always remain in our hearts. Cremation has taken place and a private interment with family prior to a Celebration of Life, will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be greatly appreciated.
