Martin Balenovich

Mr. Martin Balenovich, age 87 years, formerly of Grenville Avenue, passed away peacefully in Bethammi Nursing Home on Thursday, April 22 with his family by his side.

Martin was born in Croatia on March 22, 1923. He immigrated to Canada and in 1958, settled in Port Arthur. Martin was employed by Boreal Timber and then with Abitibi for twenty-six years, retiring in 1977. He was a member of the Canadian Culture Club, and the Croatian Federal Union. He also enjoyed gardening, fishing, and cooking, to Martin his home was his castle and his grandchildren were his pride and joy.

Martin is survived by his wife Lucy; two daughters: Mary Anne (Guy) Boisvert and Cathy (Harold) Craig, all of Thunder Bay; son Matt of Winnipeg; two sisters in Europe and a sister Mary Borovac in Toronto; six grandchildren: Cheryl, Michael, Jennifer, David Craig, and Monique, and Marie Boisvert; seven great grandchildren: Michaela, Dante, Kalvin, Kameron, Kaden, Liam and Lilah. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive. He was predeceased by his parents; siblings: Stephan, Jakov, Evan and Luca.

Funeral Services for the late Martin Balenovich will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 28th, 2010 in the Chapel of Harbourview Funeral Centre. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Tuesday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Harbourview Funeral Centre, 499 North Cumberland Street. Entombment will take place in St. Andrew’s Catholic Cemetery. If friends so desire, donations may be made in Martin’s memory to the charity of their choice.
