In loving memory of Ms. Mary Horvat, born to Johanna Senko and Alois Horvat on December 5, 1935 in Lucky, Slovakia who passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 31, 2015 in E.W. Bickle Centre in Toronto.

Maria came to Thunder Bay (Fort William) with her mother Johanna in 1949 to reunite with her father Alois.  Maria went to St. Peter’s School and later was an employee of local restaurants, Venice Grill, Coney Island and Purity Bread.  She was a volunteer helping with pirohi (Church of the Transfiguration) and Shelter House in Thunder Bay.  While in Toronto she was in care of the Florence Booth Home and later the Toronto Women’s Shelter.

Maria was well known in the community, a devoted catholic and will be remembered for her kindness and generosity.

Maria is survived by relatives in Slovakia, friends in Thunder Bay and Toronto.  She was predeceased by her father Alois in 1988, her mother Johanna in 1994 and as well as many other beloved family members.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 24, 2015, when family and friends will gather for Funeral Mass at 10:30 am, at St. Peter's Church celebrated by Rev. Terry Sawchuk. Interment will follow in St. Patrick's Cemetery. If friends desire, memorials to a charity of your choice would be appreciated.

Mary Horvat will be remembered in the Blake Funeral Chapel Memorial Grove.  Annual dedication service Sunday, June 12, 2016.
