It is with sadness, the family of Mary McDonald (nee Szabo) announces her passing at St. Joseph`s Care Group, TCU, on Sunday November 13th, 2016 at the age of 84.

Mary was born on July 14th, 1932 to parents Harriett and Tony Szabo. Mary lived in Kenora, Dryden and resided in Thunder Bay until her passing. On September 1st 1952, Mary married Lorne McDonald in Kenora, Ontario.

Family was most important to Mary and Lorne. Together, they raised their 6 beautiful children, instilling in them her generous and loving spirit. Mary was a kind, compassionate and caring woman who devoted herself completely to her children and grandchildren. She was an avid baseball fan, and always cheered for her favourite team, The Toronto Blue Jays.

A devout Catholic, Mary was a member of St. Dominic's Roman Catholic Church. She enjoyed all aspects of her home life. She was an incredible cook, and took tremendous pride in her home.

Each season meant the family would enjoy her many comforting homemade dishes. The family favourites included, her dill pickles,  perogies, cabbage rolls, bean soup and pies.

Mom (Grandma) loved staying active and getting out on her bike, her main mode of transportation. Mary will be lovingly remembered by her children, Darryll (Janet), Jocelyn Smith (Greg), Jamie, Patrick (Lisa) and Kevin. She leaves behind her dear daughters-in-law Susan and Laurel. She is also survived by her brothers, Aurel (Shirley), Link (Reta), Ernie (Paulette), sister Patti Turrie (Gord), brother-in-law Gary Ingram, sister-in-law Maureen Braisby, grandchildren, Ryan, Deena Curtis (John), Tanner, Adam, Chelsea Smith (Ryan Fawcett), Carly (Will), Lauren, Jessica (Matt), Matthew, Lindsay Arthur (Adam), Kaitlyn Kaskiw (David), Whitney Lundstrom (Per), Nolan (Candice), Aaron (Stacey), and numerous nieces, nephews and great-grandchildren.

Mary was predeceased by her husband Lorne, son Dean, parents Tony and Harriett Szabo, brother Jimmy, sisters Andrena and Helen.

Cremation has taken place and a Funeral Mass will be held on Friday November 18th, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Dominic`s Church, celebrated by Rev. Maurizio Maifredi c.s. A private family Interment will take place at a later time. If friends so desire, donations may be made to P.R.O. Kids Thunder Bay or a charity of your choice.

Mary McDonald will be remembered in the Blake Funeral Chapel Memorial Grove.  Annual dedication service Sunday, June 11, 2017.
