Mary Prokopchuk (nee Predinchuk), age 92 years, of Thunder Bay passed away June 1st, 2017 after a short illness at Thunder Bay Regional Hospital.
Born in Canora Saskatchewan, Aug 4, 1924, she attended school until the age of 15 when she left to work on the family farm. She was married in 1944 to Metro Prokopchuk. Together, they would have one son, Ernie before moving to Thunder Bay where they eventually bought the house she would reside in until present day.
Over the course of time, Mary would spend 3 decades cleaning houses in the Thunder Bay area. She was a dedicated and active member of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of St. Volodymyr, parish of All Saints; frequently volunteering with cleaning, perogy making, and other church activities. She was also an accomplished gardener who enjoyed cooking many traditional Ukrainian dishes for her family and friends as well as watching her favourite baseball team, the Toronto Blue Jays on the TV.
Mary is survived by her sisters Lena Babiuk, Vicky (Tom) Hock; daughter-in-law, Tonia Prokopchuk nee Patraniuk; her grandson Ernie, wife Brenda; Stephen, wife Lorinda, and Anthony; great-grandchildren, Evan and Mike (sons of Ernie and Brenda).
Mary is predeceased by her parents, Peter and Dora Predinchuk, her husband Metro, her brothers Bill, Fred and John and son Ernie.
The family would also like to extend special thanks to the parish community and many friends that have helped and supported Mary.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 6, 2017, when family and friends will gather for Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m., at St. Volodymyr's Ukrainian Orthodox Church celebrated by Rev. Lubomyr Hluchaniuk. Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery. Panachyda will be offered June 5, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. in the Blake Funeral Chapel. The family would like to request donations to St. Volodymyr’s parish or Canadian Blood Services in her name in lieu of flowers or cards.
