Mary Sobkowich

Mary (Marta) Sobkowich, aged 89 years, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 20, 2018 at the TBRHSC following a brief illness.

Born and raised in Fort William, Mary worked at a number of different jobs in her life; Canada Car and as a seamstress for Supreme Cleaners for many years. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary, The Royal Canadian Legion Slovak Branch No. 129 since 1956.

Mary enjoyed her garden and would spend endless hours making sure her flowers and shrubs were in perfect condition. Mary was predeceased by her parents Michael and Anna Bodnar; brothers John Bodnar 1976, Ambrose Bodnar 1977, William Bodnar 1991, Nicholas Bodnar 1986 and Theodor Bodnar 2010; sisters Valencia Bushell 1986 and Joyce Shalley 2002.

Mary is survived by her sons John (Shelley) and William (Bonnie); grandsons William, Johnathon and Michael (Samantha) of Thunder Bay. Also survived by niece Patricia (John) Nicholson as well as other nieces and nephews.

Visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday, February 22, 2018 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. with Panakyda being offered at 7:00 p.m. at Jenkens Funeral Home. Funeral services for Mary Sobkowich will be held on Friday, February 23, 2018 at St. Volodymyr’s Ukrainian Orthodox Church, 1502 Mountdale Avenue, at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Pawlo Berezniak officiating.
