Mary Spooner

Posted

May 6, 1918  - April 2, 2015

It is with great sadnesss that the family of Mary Spooner announce her passing peacefully in her sleep on Thursday, April 2, 2015.

Mary was a talented seamstress and spent her working career making custom drapes for the T.Eaton Company. She would spend her summers in her large garden, and share her vegetables and fruit with her family. She was able to stay in her home for many years longer because of her cousin Joe and his family, as they were able to help her with her daily tasks, taking her shopping and to appointments.

A resident of Farrand Street for many years until her health declined and she needed more assistance,  she then made Roseview Manor her home for the last 15 years.

Mary will be missed by Joe’s wife Betty Matychuk and their children, Lois and Steve Rogala, Donna and Brian Lix, Chris and David Vaclav, and John and Dianne Matychuk.

She was predeceased by her husband Clem, mother and father Mary And Nick Vak, brothers Sam and Micheal Vak, cousin Joseph Matychuk.

The family would like to thank Dr. Ross Johnson and the nursing staff of Roseview Manor for the wonderful and compassionate care Mary received during her stay. The caring staff of the Heritage floor made her very comfortable in her new home.

A Funeral for Mary will be held in the Chapel of Harbourview Funeral Centre on Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. with Father Donnelly of St. Margaret's officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment to follow in St. Andrew's Cemetery.

She had cancer in the 1980’s and lived on for another 35 years; should friends so desire, donations can be made to Linda Buchan Centre.

“We will miss you - Rest in Peace”
