It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of Mary Stec, formerly of Begin Place, at Hogarth Riverview Manor on Monday October 22, at the age of 94.

Mary was born at the Kakabeka Red Cross Outpost on June 11, 1924, to William and Priscilla Fleming who took her home to O'Connor Township to older brother Bill and sister Pearl. She would later have a younger sister Dorothy.

Mary attended school in O'Connor, moving to Fort William before the age of 20. She rented a room on Norah Street, walking to work at Woolworths, then Chapples Office, making many new and lifelong friendships.

Mary started at Canada Car on February 5, 1953 and retired July 1, 1986. Mary was a dedicated hard worker her entire life, whether it was helping at home in her early years, working at Canada Car or looking after her home and yard, she took great pride in everything she did.

Mary married Thomas Stec on January 1, 1957 and enjoyed 41 years of marriage until his passing in 1998.

Mary and Tom loved to travel. They drove their motorhome across Canada and the United States, spending time in Texas, Florida and Arizona. Mary and Tom went to Mexico and Cuba, but she had the fondest memories of their trip to Hawaii.

Mary enjoyed entertaining friends and family. She was a skilled cook and baker, having learned from her mother using a wood stove, Mary never forgot any of those lessons.

Mary was a special aunt to all her nieces and nephews. She loved it when the great nieces and nephews spent time with her, as the great greats came along she loved to see all the new babies. She was especially fond of looking for signs of curly hair, which she loved to see on a young child.

Mary was Auntie Mary to many, related or not, she loved her role as everyone's aunt.

Mary is survived by her sister Dorothy Beaney, numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews, as well as many lifelong friends.

Mary was predeceased by her husband Captain Thomas Stec, parents, brother Bill, sister Pear Turk, sister-in-law Norah Fleming, brother-in-laws Elmer Turk and Allan Beaney, as well as in-laws Nicolas and Maria Stec, sister in laws Victoria Nicolychuk, Stella Stones and Olga Zakaluk, brother in laws Walter and Michael Stec.

Funeral services for Mary Stec will be held on Thursday, October 25th at Jenkens Funeral Home, 226 S. Syndicate Avenue, at 11:00 am. Visitation starting at 10:00 am.

From the time Auntie Mary started working, she never missed giving a donation to charity when anyone she knew lost a loved one. In that spirit, in lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the charity of your choice. Auntie Mary would be humbled.
