It is with great sadness that the family of Mary Thain announce her sudden but peaceful passing with her loving family at her side on Friday, May 25, 2018, at the Transitional Care Unit at Hogarth Riverview Manor. Mary was born on August 4, 1930 in Fort William, Ontario. She attended Ogden Public and Selkirk Vocational schools.

Mary was a member of the first graduating class of RNA’s at McKellar Hospital. She went on to work at McKellar and Westmount hospitals. Mary really enjoyed family gatherings and attending social events. She especially enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She enjoyed the simple things in life and loved to share jokes and stories. Mary was a kind and gentle soul but also a strongwilled person of great faith who believed in the power of prayer. Her prayers helped her and others through adversity.

Mary formed many friendships in her life, most recently at Jasper Place where she also served on the advisory board. Mary is survived by her children Lillian Murray (Jim), and Dan Majbroda (Susie). Grandchildren Kevin Murray (Beatriz), Carolyn Murray (Phil), Daryn Majbroda, Amada Majbroda (Kathy), and Shea Majbroda (Jackie). Great grandchildren Sylas and Jasper Majbroda, Aiden and Liam Chlebovec. Sister Lydia Hunt, sisters in-law Kathy Wasylyk and Lillian Parkin. Mary was predeceased by her husband Ross Thain, her parents Sofia and Mike Wasylyk; brothers Mike and Maurice and sister Olga.

The family would like to sincerely thank the exceptional support staff at Jasper Place and the extraordinarily caring and compassionate staff at the transitional care unit at Hogarth Riverview. In particular Doctor Skunta, Bev, Hilary, Elise, Jordan, Atika, Chelsea, Connie, Pauline, Kylee and all the others. A special thank you to Barb, her hospice volunteer and valuable friend who was her shining light throughout her stays at the Regional and the transitional care unit.

A celebration of Mary’s life will be held on Saturday, June 2, 2018 at 11:30 a.m. at the chapel in Hogarth Riverview followed by a reception to take place in the Fireside room at the Valhalla Inn. A private interment will be held at another time. In lieu of flowers donations to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Science Centre would be appreciated.

Mary Thain will be remembered in the Blake Funeral Chapel Memorial Grove.  Annual dedication service Sunday, June 9, 2019.
