The family of Maryann Peltola, age 79, are heartbroken and devastated to announce her peaceful passing after a courageous battle with cancer on August 15, 2017, with her loving family by her side at TBRHSC.

Maryann was born November 24, 1937 to Anne (Fonso) Wanzuk and Nicholas Kryivychka and was a life long resident of Thunder Bay. Maryann met the love of her life, Paul Peltola and were married February 23, 1957 and just celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. Maryann worked at Bourke's Drug for many years. Maryann was very talented, she did water paintings and we were all fortunate to get one of her paintings to treasure. She also had a green thumb and could grow anything. Maryann and Paul were inseparable and lived life to the fullest until her health took a turn for the worse.

Maryann is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Paul, son Wayne (friend Liz), grandson Ross (Carmella) and was expecting the birth of her first great grandson in December and also by Ross' mother Peggy. Sisters and brothers; Deanna (late Norman) Zulionello, Pauline (Aldo) Bisignano, Judy (late John) Biley, Peter, Nicky (Judy), Billy, Mike (Pat), Paul (Mary), Dennis (Marsha), sister-in-law Diane Wanzuk; in-laws Allan (Marion) Peltola, Lilla (late Verne), Tracy, Eilleen (late Ernie) Matson, aunts Phyllis Stokaluk and Katheryn Maniluk. Also survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews. Predeceased by mother Anne, father Nicholas and step-father George Wanzuk, mother and father-in-law Toevo and Martha Peltola, brother George Jr., sister Barbera and Winston Rahmer, nephews Robert Peltola and Jason Biley, cousin Don Stokaluk. Also predeceased by grandparents, aunts, uncles and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 21, 2017 in the Chapel of Harbourview Funeral Centre, 499 North Cumberland Street, presided by Rev. Luigi Filippini of St. Anthony's Catholic Church. Visitation for family and friends will begin one hour prior, at 10:00 a.m.

Interment will be at a later date. Donations in Maryann's memory to the Northern Cancer Fund or a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
