It is with great sadness that the family of Maurice Luby announce his passing after a brief illness on Tuesday, January 17, 2017.

Maurice was born on July 14, 1938 to Nadia and Peter Luby and was a lifetime resident of Thunder Bay. He was well known in the heavy equipment/hydraulic industry through his work with Vulcan Machinery and Vesco Hydraulics.

After his retirement, his time was dedicated to his family and friends. Maurice was very active with his condo association, bowling, and golfing leagues. He spent countless hours doing his antarsia woodworking.

His last project was over 400 pieces and he always made time for his weekly coffee with the guys.

What brought Maurice the greatest joy was spending time with his family at camp. After rebuilding it with his father, the family has spent many memorable years there. From learning how to swim, fish, and water-ski, it has always been a place of happiness.

Maurice was the most proud of watching his grandson Trevor grow up: Dido was always there to support him in all of his endeavours. Trevor was his shining star.

Maurice is survived by his wife Mary, daughter Deborah (Gordon) MacCabe, son Peter Luby, Grandson Trevor Luby, Paul and Gina Milkovich (brother and sister-in-law) and niece Linda (Howard) Green. He is also survived by numerous cousins and friends. Maurice was predeceased by his parents Peter and Nadia Luby, in-laws Margaret and George Milkovich, Anne Milkovich (sister-in-law) and Erin Luby (daughter-in-law).

Funeral Services for Mr. Luby will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 21, 2017 in the Chapel of the Harbourview Funeral Centre, 499 North Cumberland Street.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to service time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
