Maxine Sawchyn
Mrs. Maxine Ida Sawchyn, age 91 years, passed away peacefully in Pioneer Ridge on Friday, August 31, 2018.

Maxine was born in Dauphin, Manitoba on April 18, 1927. She was the middle child of Joseph and Ida Shand. Maxine moved to Fort William, where she met and married John Sawchyn in 1946. She worked various jobs including at CanCar during WWII and finally she “went back to school as staff” at Confederation College. She spent most of her life on Mountdale Avenue in Westfort living with her son Ken and his wife Karen, who were her caregivers. In later years, she moved to Jasper Place and then finally to Pioneer Ridge. Maxine enjoyed knitting, but only when she had time from her true love, travelling. She would fly anywhere she could. Above all else, Maxine's family and their well being was her main priority and she loved spending time with all of them. Maxine made many friends and she will be truly missed by all who knew her.

Maxine is survived by her sons Kenneth (Karen), Donald, Barry (Roberta), Rendell (Tracey) and daughter Cindy (Ralph) Magus of Lethbridge, Alberta; nine grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Beryl Byer of Kelowna, British Columbia as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband John (1970); her parents and nine siblings as well as her daughter-in-law Mariclare Sawchyn.

The family would like to thank the staff of both Jasper Place and Pioneer Ridge for the wonderful care provided to Maxine.

A Celebration of Maxine's Life will be held in the Fall with details to be announced. A private interment will take place in Mountainview Cemetery. Should friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, donations made in memory of Maxine to the Northern Cancer Fund would be greatly appreciated.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the WESTFORT CHAPEL, 420 West Gore Street at James.
