Mrs. Melissa “Missie” Ciriacy Ruberto, age 62 years, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, February 20, 2023.

Missie was born August 2, 1960 in Ely, Minnesota. She was raised there spending time at her favourite place, Burntside Lake. She met Jed in 1980, while attending the University of Minnesota Duluth. They were married August 14, 1982 and settled in Thunder Bay, where they raised their three children Aaron, Luke, and Sarah.

Missie enjoyed writing, reading, cooking, and baking with her grandchildren. She was in the process of developing her green thumb and was excited to try out her brand new mini-saw around the cabin. Her favourite season was summer. Her true joy came from basking in the sun, trying to achieve a “savage tan” and taking saunas at Burntside. She was the first one in and the last one out. Most of all though, she loved her family. Her children and grandchildren were the light of her life. She loved having her grandkids for sleepovers on the weekends. In her recent retirement she was a full-time grandmother and her house doubled as an unofficial daycare centre for them whenever she was needed. When not taking care of her grandchildren, she worked as a Student Support Professional with Lakehead District School Board. She had an exceptional ability to work with young students of varying special needs and bring out the best in them. She was also a voice of calm and reason during difficult situations, and many turned to her for advice when times were tough. She was a long-time member of Lakeview Presbyterian Church and a woman of strong faith, knowing everything always happened for a reason. Nothing was ever a coincidence for Missie, but part of a bigger plan.

Missie is survived by her loving husband of 40 years, Jed; beloved children, Aaron (Heidi) Ruberto, Luke Ruberto, and Sarah (Dale) Myllyaho; and cherished grandchildren, Nolan, Keaton and Leonardo. She is also survived by her siblings, Edward (Peg) Ciriacy, Adele Ciriacy and Timothy (Mary) Ciriacy; mother in-law Francesca Ruberto; brother in-law Peter Ruberto; sister in-law Maria Ruberto; nieces Allie and Emily; and nephews Michael and David. She was predeceased by her mother Adele, father Edward, and sister, Deborah. Missie often spoke of reuniting with her mother and sister one day. We can all find comfort in knowing that she is with them now, smiling down on us all.

Funeral Services for Missie will be held at 11:00am on Friday, March 3, 2023 at Lakeview Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Janice Yanishewski officiating. There will be a gathering for friends and family of Missie at The Courthouse Hotel Ballroom afterwards. Parking for funeral and reception will be available at The Courthouse Hotel.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Everest Funeral Chapel, 299 Waverley Street at Algoma.

If friends so desire, donations may be made to Children Believe (www.childrenbelieve.ca).
