It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of Michael John Baranesky, Mike passed suddenly October 28 with his family at his side.

Michael grew up in Red Lake Ontario, to parents Anna and William. His younger years he enjoyed snowmobiling, playing hit tunes on his electronic piano, rock music and ’Space 1999’. He helped out in his family’s restaurant, maybe thats where his passion for cooking sprouted. Mike was an excellent cook, and he would say his cooking was ‘made with love’. After his teen years worked at Campbell mine underground and as an explosives truck driver.

Later in his life he moved to Thunder Bay, married Francine Marin. They had two boys, Justin and Brendon. They all enjoyed the camping trips to Rainbow Falls and trips back to Red Lake to visit with family. Mike trained to be a social worker, working in group homes for Community Living and Options Northwest, a challenging and rewarding job.

Micheal enjoyed his cats, Miss Kitty, Blackie and Bella, they miss his gentle demeanour and cuddles. He could watch reruns of old sitcoms such as ‘Gilligans Island’, ’Three’s Company’ and the movies of Jim Carrey often. He was a great horror movie fan, his favourite movie was ’The Shining’ which he would quote regularly. Micheal loved the holidays, and of course his favourite was Halloween. You never could expect a quick shop at the grocery store with Mike. He was always a leisurely shopper, and always looked for best before dates.

Mike met Fred in May 2016. When Fred’s brother’s house came up for sale he bought it, together they would have a home to start on their new journey.

A Celebration of Life is planned for Saturday, January 13th, at the North End Rec., in Thunder Bay, details will be posted to Facebook.

Michael is survived by his spouse Fred, son Justin & Hayley grandson Hunter, son Brendon & Maliya, grand children Maliki, Emma, Kai, and Bella, former spouse Francine Marin, his mother Anna, brother Dave & Fiona children Josh, Chris and Nicole, Brother Johnny & Kelly children Jordan, Grace and Ben. His sister Rachelle & Jeff their children Camille, Victoria and Evan. His Aunts, Uncles and their families in Southern Ontario and in Saskatchewan.
