The family of Michael (Michal) Stachejczuk Sr., age 82 years, are saddened to announce his passing, after a brief illness, on Wednesday, August 16, 2017 in Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre, with his family by his side.

Michael was born to Piotr and Zofia Stachejczuk on August 15, 1935 in Dawid-Grodek, Poland. He immigrated to Canada with his family at the age of 15 and had to go to school to learn the english language. Michael ventured into managing the Capital Theatre and from there, went into the garment industry, owning and managing Superior Uniforms and Cleaners. He attempted retirement briefly, but returned to the work force as a Safety Consultant for IAPA until 1995. Michael was an entrepreneur at heart, with many business ventures, including Service Master. Dad's hobbies were Friday night poker games with the boys, frequent visits to casinos and playing 31 with his buddies. He was also a collector of old cars, coins, stamps and old swords.

Michael is survived by his children Marion (Paul) Fedick, Mike (Bridget) Stachejczuk, Nina Michel (Ron Frost) and Kim Scalese; his wife Marlene and son-in-law Mario Scalese;grandchildren Paul (Sherry) and William (Kylie) Fedick, Michael (Nicole), Ryan (Justin) and Amy Stachejczuk, Nicole Stachejczuk (Alex) , Natalie (Will), Adam and Christian Scalese as well as great-grandchildren Delilah and Ethan. He is also survived by his sisters Bernice (Brian) Walker, Nina (Len) Visser and Olga (Jack) Vaillant and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was predeceased by his father Piotr and mother Zofia; brother Alec and sister-in-law Diana; father-in-law Joseph and mother-in-law Mary Rawnsley

The family would like to thank the staff of St. Joseph's Hospital and Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre – 2C and ICU for all of their care and comfort provided to Michael. A special thank you to Dr. Brown for his concern and passion.

Funeral Services for the late Mr. Michael Stachejczuk will be held on Tuesday, August 22, 2017 with family and friends gathering in the Ukrainian Catholic Church of the Holy Cross (Victoria Avenue West), for the Divine Liturgy at 10:00am, celebrated by Father Stepan Didur. Should friends so desire, donations made in memory of Michael Stachejczuk to the Canadian Diabetes Association would be greatly appreciated.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Simpler Times Cremation Centre, 332 North May Street, Thunder Bay.
