Mr. Miguel Thomas Moonias, age 27 years, passed away peacefully in Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre on Friday, March 5, 2021.

Miguel was born in Thunder Bay on August 7, 1993. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing as well as travelling. He was proud to graduate high school and of his Native traditions, regularly taking part in Pow Wows. He also loved rap music. Miguel's greatest passion was spending time with his family, especially his children. He will be deeply missed by all of his relatives and friends.

Miguel is survived by his common-law partner, Nicole Achneepineskum and their children Nellie, Jenelle, Kiera, Isaias and Valan; his mother Sheila Mekanak (nee Wabasse) and father Simon Paul Moonias; siblings Aaron, Preston, Starlene, Kyrell and Skyla; two grandfathers Simon Moonias Sr. and Tony Sakanee as well as numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.

He was predeceased by his two grandmothers Madeline Moonias and Betty Moonias (nee Wabasse); and his brother Dakota Mekanak.

Due to COVID restrictions, a private viewing (by invitation only) for Miguel will be held in the EVEREST FUNERAL CHAPEL, 299 Waverley Street at Algoma. Miguel will then be transported to Marten Falls First Nation, where burial will take place.

As directed by the Province of Ontario and the Bereavement Authority of Ontario, the attendance at each visitation is restricted and a record of attendance must be maintained. Wearing of masks or face coverings by everyone and maintaining social distancing of 6 feet is mandatory for those attending.
