With our heavy hearts, we are sad to announce the passing of a loving husband, father, and dziadzia; Mr. Mike (Mieczyslaw) Czaczkowski, age 80 years. A resident of Thunder Bay, he passed away with his family by his side at TBRHSC on Tuesday, January 6, 2015.

Mike was born on October 13, 1934 in Dzierzki, Poland. In 1958, he married the love of his life Jadwiga Dworakowska; next month they would have celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary.

In the following years they welcomed two children into the world: Alina and Jerzy. To make a better life for his family, Mike moved to Port Arthur, Ontario in 1975. He worked as a carpenter and bricklayer by trade and then was later employed by the Grain Elevators and Canada Car. With his skills of bricklaying, he assisted in the construction of the Polish Monument at the Friendship Gardens.

He was a very devoted Catholic and a long time member of St. Mary’s Our Lady Queen of Poland Church. At the church, he participated in the parish council. His pride of his Polish heritage came through as he was also a longtime member of the Royal Canadian Legion Polish Combatants Branch 219 and Polish Combatants in Canada Branch 1.

Because of his beliefs in post- secondary education, he supported educational bursaries. He also took part in participating in the Colour Party.

Family was everything to dziadzia, especially the pride he took in his grandchildren. He shared with his grandchildren his love for fishing, camping and hunting.  Dziadzia was the number one fan of his grandchildren.  He was at every soccer game and figure skating competition.  He always cherished and valued family gatherings. He liked to watch the family grow and he always welcomed new members with his hospitality and open heart.

Mike will be greatly missed by his loving wife Jadwiga, his daughter Alina Golen and son-in-law Jarek Golen, his son Jerzy Czaczkowski, and daughter-in-law Elizabeth Czaczkowski; grandchildren Amanda Czaczkowski-Mauro (Kristopher), Eric, Jonathan, and Monique Czaczkowski; Patrick and Shannon Golen. He is survived by his sister Helena and brother Marian in Poland with families. He will be missed by other relatives in Thunder Bay and Poland.

He was predeceased by his parents Marianna and Jozef, his brother Zenon in Poland, and other family members in Poland and Thunder Bay.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday morning, January 10, 2015, leaving the Harbourview Funeral Centre at 9:45 a.m. to St. Mary Our Lady Queen of Poland Church, 93 North Algoma Street, for Funeral Mass to be celebrated by Rev.
