It is with extreme sadness & broken hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of our mother, Millie McMillin (nee Libiak) on June 24, 2021, after a long courageous battle with lung cancer at St. Joseph’s Hospice.

Born in Fort William on April 21, 1938, she was the 4th born of 8 wonderful children. She grew up in a loving home with love of her large family in the east end, where many memoires were made. Being raised in a catholic family, she was instilled with many values of love, faith, generosity and the importance of family all that made her the beautiful person we all loved and cherished.

Millie attended St Patrick’s high school in the 50’s where again, she made many friends & memories & even being a cheerleader. After completing high school, she went into the work force where she worked as a bank teller, chamber maid & at Thunder Bay Bearings, where she met many wonderful coworkers and lifetime friends.

Shortly after finishing high school, she met the love of her life Doug. Their love grew fast and they were married on May 11th, 1957. Soon after they began raising a beautiful family of 5 children. Millie was a wonderful caring hard-working mother to 2 daughters and 3 sons, she worked very hard at raising her children as Doug worked out town frequently. She enjoyed visiting other family members, Sunday mass, family drives, camping, gardening, cooking and baking. Mille was a huge hockey fan, watching her sons and grandsons play as often as she could and a dedicated Toronto Maple Leaf’s super fan.

She was a dedicated member of the Catholic Women’s League of St. Agnes Parish. Millie also volunteered her time assisting the elderly at Pinewood Court as well as at other community events.

Millie will be sadly missed by her children; Wendy (Alan), Greg (Jacky), Gary (Laura), Deborah (John), Jeff (Linda). Also, by her siblings; Helen (Sister Naomi Libiak), Peter Libiak, Betty (Doug) Hoard, Bunny (Glenn) Carson and Sharon Libiak.

She was a loving grandmother to Danielle (Adrian) Downey, Derek (Tracy) Downey, Doug (Jen) Downey, Mike McMillin, Cody Smith, Brittany McMillin, Kaitlin McMillin. Also to her Great grandchildren; Logan, Rachel, Brayden, Mila, Payton and Levi.

Millie is predeceased by her husband Doug, parents Cecilia and Peter Libiak, brother Joseph Libiak & sister Mary Harris.

Cremation has taken place. There will be a funeral service at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 3rd, 2021 at St. Agnes Parish with Father James officiating. Invitations will be limited due to current Covid restrictions.

Millie’s family wishes to express our heartfelt thank you to the wonderful staff at St. Joseph’s Hospice, the nursing staff from Paramed Nursing and the staff at the Cancer Care Clinic at Thunder Bay Regional, for the compassionate care provided for our mother.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the charity of your choice.
