Mrs. Miriam Kartinen, 88 of Thunder Bay died peacefully Monday July 27, 2015 after a brief illness.
Miriam was born in Port Arthur but lived in Murillo for all of her younger life until moving to Port Arthur. She started her working life at the Hoito a position she was very proud of. From there she went to work in the bush as a cookie where she met the love of her life Walter. Her and Walter moved to Eriksdale, Manitoba for 10 years returning to Thunder Bay in 1985 where she resided ever since.
Ma was busy her whole life with caring for her home and family as well as working outside of the home. She was an active volunteer and her life revolved around her family caring for her seven children. She was always there for them and the grandchildren when they needed her. She took great pleasure in the time she spent with all of them. Ma was a very social individual and befriended everyone she came in contact with. People gravitated towards her when she was out and about and she always had a kind word for them and genuine interest in how they were doing.
She looked forward to going to church on Sunday and in extension her many visits with Pastor Keith Bunn where they had some interesting conversations. Those moments meant a great deal to her.
Miriam is survived by her seven children, Ilona McDonald (Angus), Alan (Kathy) Kartinen, Marlene Karila (Clifford), William Kartinen (Natalie) and Carl Kartinen and Mary Kartinen-Brown all of Thunder Bay, Anne Nuhn (Leonard) Englehart as well as 13 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren and her sister Margaret Rampanen, Nanaimo BC. Also survived are numerous nieces and nephews and other relatives.
Miriam was predeceased by her parents, John and Lempi Forsgren, her husband Walter, brother William Forsgren a twin brother in infancy and son-in-law Dave Brown.
