Mr. Mitchell Andrew Kanate, age 28 years, passed away unexpectedly at home in Thunder Bay on Saturday, May 21, 2022.

Mitchell was born in Red Lake, Ontario on March 6,1994. He attended school in Thunder Bay and was planning on returning to school this fall. Mitchell loved spending time with his family and friends He was always happy to venture out for a drive with Nikki, to go out for coffee or attend activities. He was sweet and always made it a point to talk with people and to make them feel comfortable. Mitchell liked to share stories and laugh. He was quick to smile and was always kind and considerate to everyone he met in his life. He was a gentleman. Mitch enjoyed going to the movies, going for walks, drawing and gaming with his online friends and his best friend Cody. He will be deeply missed by all of his family and friends.

Mitchell is survived by his mother Deborah (Dennis) Bergman; father Raymond John (Gabrielle) Kanate; big sister, Nicole Kanate and his little siblings, Alexis, Sunshine, Kristina, Autumn, Hazel, and Wyatt Kanate; stepsiblings Joseph (Stephanie) and Anasthasia Bergman; grandfather Isiah Kanate; aunties, Samantha McNeill, Dinah Kanate, Linda Kanate, Tinea Kanate and Susan (Zeb) Williams; uncles, Martin and Richard Kanate; cousins Hayley (Ronan and Brynn), Jayda (Soren) and Hope McNeill, Tharen McNeill, Korban and Hunter Wanakamik, Sophie, Bella and Beaux McNeill and cousins, Derek, Charlotte, Patrick, Dianne, Russell Kanate as well as numerous other cousins and family.

He was predeceased by grandmothers Ina Kanate and Emily McNeill; grandfather Alan McNeill and his uncle Richard McNeill.

Funeral Services for the late Mitchell Kanate will be held on Friday, May 27, 2022 at 10:30 am in the WESTFORT CHAPEL, 420 West Gore Street, Thunder Bay. Cremation will follow. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday evening from 6:00-8:00pm in the Chapel.

For those unable to attend the service, a video recording will be available on the Everest of Thunder Bay website beginning on Saturday.
