Mr. Murray Smith, age 86 years, passed away peacefully in Roseview Manor, on Saturday May 9th, 2015. He was the beloved husband of the late Barbara Smith.

Murray was born in Mortelach, Saskatchewan on June 18th, 1928, and grew up in Macdowell Saskatchewan. He left home early as a teen, travelling to Northern Ontario to join his Uncle and then began his career in the forest industry.

It was during this time that he crossed paths with Barbara. They fell in love and the two married. They first settled in Geraldton, ON and began a family of eight children. They eventually moved to Port Arthur, ON and built their home and family on Onion Lake Road.

Murray was a gentle person who seldom expressed his heartfelt feelings but never failed to put his family first and provide for them.

Murray had been employed by Saskatchewan Pool Elevators for 30 years until his retirement. Afterwards he spent his retired years gardening, wood working, and enjoying road trips with Barb across Canada.

Murray will be lovingly remembered by his 3 daughters; Debbie (Heather), Cheryl (Roy) Nisula, Lucinda (Mark) Moland, his 4 sons; Doug, Randy, Clyde (Christine), and Bill (Kathryn), as well as by his numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He was predeceased by wife Barbara, his son Malcolm, his parents Lillian and William Smith, his sister Wilma and his two brothers Elmer and Gordon.

Murray and the family would like to thank the staff at Roseview Manor for their dedicated, compassionate and respectful care of Murray. Special thanks to children Debbie and Douglas for their care and patience during Dad’s final years.

As per Murray’s wishes cremation has taken place and no Funeral Services shall be held. A private interment shall take place at a later date.

There is a place in our hearts, that’s yours alone

A piece of love, no one can own

For deep in our hearts, your memory is kept.

To Love, to cherish and never forget,

No words we speak, could ever say,

How much we will miss you every day.
