Mr. Nikola Novacic, age 78 years and a resident of Thunder Bay passed away in the TBRHSC on Monday February 23rd, 2015.

Nikola was born on December 6th, 1936 in Trnovac Lika Croatia. Later in 1951, he crossed the border into Austria and a few years after that he crossed the ocean to Canada in search of a better life. Eventually he settled in Beardmore, ON and it was here that he met and married the love of his life; Laura (nee Blaskovic).

Nikola had worked for the Leitch Gold Mine, Domtar, Multiply Plywood and finally ended his career as a Bush Worker in 1978, at Great Lakes Paper in Thunder Bay, when an unfortunate workplace accident put an end to his working days.

Nikola will be lovingly remembered by his wife Laura, his daughters Mary-Anne (Bob) Drobet and Loretta (Tony) Kotarac, his grandchildren Ryan, Nikki & Bobby Drobet and Jesse Kotarac. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, his niece and his nephew in Croatia as well as his cousin Antona Novacic and Ana Vujinovic in the Toronto area.

Nikola was predeceased by his parents and by his brother.

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday February 26th, 2015, leaving the Harbourview Funeral Centre at 10:30 AM to go to the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, located at 479 Oliver Road, for the Mass beginning at 11:00 AM celebrated by Fr. Francis Blazek. Entombment will follow in Our Lady of Charity Mausoleum.

Visitation for family and friends will be held from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Wednesday (TONIGHT) February 25th, 2015 in the HARBOURVIEW FUNERAL CENTRE, 499 North Cumberland Street, with Vigil Prayers being offered the same evening at 7:00 PM.

If anyone so desires donations may be made in Nikola’s memory to either the TBRHSC Northern Cancer Research Foundation or to the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church
