It is with great sadness the family of Norman Nistico announce his sudden passing after a brief battle with Covid-19, on Monday, February 22nd, 2021.

Norman, the youngest of 9 children, was born March 3rd, 1937 and raised in Fort William, calling Ogden St. and “The East End” his stomping grounds for all of his youth. Being an avid member in hockey and broomball community in his younger years, Norm eventually met his soon to be wife Agnes. They were married on February 6th, 1960 and shortly after began a family. Fond memories of growing up, family trips, countless camping and fishing trips will endure with our family forever.

Norm’s greatest love is his family, from his wife of 61 years to his children, grandchildren to great grandchildren. Norm will always be remembered by those who knew him as a person always willing to lend a hand.

Norm enjoyed retirement which began in October 1995, after a long career with CP Rail. He kept busy as a general handyman to various businesses in town, still giving the odd hair cut from his barbering days. It seemed that he knew ‘someone’ just about ‘everywhere’.

Eventually he gave up the business after 25 years, and really settled into retirement. He got to take up the odd game of golf from time to time, or go wet a line to find some pickerel, where he’d like to boast he didn’t need to buy a fishing license anymore.

Norm was an active member of St. Elizabeth’s Church for much of his life, which was just down the street from home. Even after moving he still remained devoted to the church. As retirement went on, Norm especially loved to travel to visit family and friends, and most casinos along the way.

Norman is predeceased by his parents Charles and Amelia, all of his brothers and a sister.

He is survived by his wife Agnes and sister Rita Traer, his four children: Odean (Ernie), Keith (Kim), Jason (Sherry) and Warren (Anastasia); granddaughters Dawn (Colin) (great grandson Charlie) and Fallyn (Vadym), grandson Marc (great grandson Cian); grandson David, granddaughters Amanda (Ben) and Sidney; grandson Dale (great grandchildren Shawna, Nicholas, Marcus), granddaughter Crystal (Andrew) (great granddaughters Gabryella and Gemma). Along with numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Funeral services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Norm’s honour to the Northern Cancer Fund (payable to TBRHSF) or to The Heart and Stroke Foundation.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Westfort Chapel, 420 West Gore Street at James.
