Mrs. Olga Chamut, age 94 years, a resident of The Walford and previously Cherry Lane, passed away peacefully in St Joseph’s Hospice on Sunday, October 17, 2021.

Olga Lubuk was born in Fort William and raised on Island # 2. She worked at various retail jobs, retiring from Woolworths in 1986. Olga married Fred on Feb. 16, 1946 and they celebrated 70 years of marriage, prior to Fred’s passing on August 10, 2016. Olga and Fred enjoyed many happy years at their camp at Lac Des Mille Lacs. She was previously an active member of the Port Arthur Prosvita Society, the Slovak Legion Seniors and the Lakehead Promenades square dancing group.

Olga is survived by her son Ted (Susan); granddaughter Shelby (Tony) Bruni and their children, Julianna, Natalia and Tessa ; grandson Logan (Shilo) Chamut and their children Grayson and Kaija Olga is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins, as well as lifelong friends, Josie Moskwa and Mike and Sylvia Kostecki. She was predeceased by her parents Peter and Helen Lubuk, her sister and brother-in- law Elsie and Joe Kwasny, as well as nephews Brian Kwasny and Bill Giertuga, and other extended family.

The family would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to the wonderful, caring staff at The Walford, who supported Olga, so that she could live her last 6 years as close to independent as possible. Dr B Hartford was also instrumental in her care for many years.

During the past 3 weeks, Olga received excellent compassionate care in the Emergency Dept and on 2B at TBRHSC and on Hospice at St Joseph’s Hospital.

Private Funeral Services for the late Mrs. Olga Chamut be held in the Ukrainian Catholic Church of the Holy Cross celebrated by Fr. Stepan Didur. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens. A recording of the service will be available on everestofthunderbay.com after October 27, 2021

As directed by the Province of Ontario and the Bereavement Authority of Ontario, COVID protocols are still being applied in group settings. Capacity is limited to allow for social distancing of 6 feet, a record of attendance must be maintained and wearing of masks or face coverings by everyone is mandatory for those attending the services.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the EVEREST FUNERAL CHAPEL, 299 Waverley Street at Algoma.

Should friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Olga may be made to Northern Cancer Fund, St Joseph’s Hospice or a charity of your choice.
