Mr. Paavo Evert Reinikka, age 82 years died peacefully in his sleep at St. Joseph's Hospital on Friday, January 19, 2018.

Paavo was born in Kuortane, Finland on November 25, 1935. As a young man, he relocated to Tampere, Finland. In 1967 he and his family immigrated to Port Arthur with the encouragement of his brother Urho and family who lived here. Paavo worked in forestry, primarily for Abitibi until his retirement in 2002. He loved and excelled at bowling and even more, fishing for salmon at his camp (Mokki) at Little Trout Bay.

Paavo is survived by his wife Ritva Pitkanen, son Raine (Brenda), son Arto (Alison Fernie),and grandchildren Erik, Heidi, Jessica, Madeline (Michael) and great grandchildren Everly and Arthur as well as nieces and nephews in Finland. Paavo also shared time with Ritva's grandchild and great grandchildren Kyla and Tessa and Nolan.

Predeceased by his parents Elias and Josefiina Reinikka and all his siblings Toini, Urho, Elias, Erkki, Helvi, Toivo and Pekka all in Finland.

The family wishes to thank the Doctors, Nurses and Staff of 2 South at St. Joseph's Hospital for all their care and support.

In accordance with Paavo's wishes, cremation has taken place. A reception to celebrate Paavo's life will be held on Friday, January 26, 2018 from 12:00 noon until 2:00 PM in Hilldale Lutheran Church, 321 Hilldale Road.

Donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society or a charity of your choice.
