Parania “Pearl” Hrynchuk
November 15, 1918 - July 20, 2016

On July 20th, Parania (Pearl) Hrynchuk, at the age of 97, passed away peacefully at Hogarth Riverview Manor, with her loving family by her side.

Pearl was born on November 15, 1918 to John and Kesnia Husiak in Poplarfield, Manitoba, where she was raised with her sister and brothers on their family's homestead. In 1939, Pearl married Michael Daciw and in 1945, they moved to Ontario with their two small children, residing briefly in Murillo before moving to Fort William.

In 1951, after the tragic death of her husband Michael, Pearl went to work as a custodian for the Lakehead Board of Education, retiring in 1983. In 1954, Pearl met Dmytro Hrynchuk and they married in 1956.

Family was most important to Pearl and her greatest joy came from preparing traditional Ukrainian dishes for her family.

Her perogies, cabbage rolls, kapusta, and plum buns were always a special treat. A highlight for Pearl each year was ordering seeds from the catalogue, planning and planting her garden, then harvesting and preserving the produce.

Another joy for Pearl and Dmytro, were weekends spent at their camp at Graham Lake, picking blueberries and mushrooms and tending to their garden. Pearl was an active member of St. Volodymyr's Ukrainian Orthodox parish in Westfort, and for many years enjoyed making perogies each week with the ladies of the parish.

Although Pearl had much enjoyment in her later years, she never overcame the passing of her son Jim, in 2006. Pearl was predeceased by her mother and father, John and Ksenia Husiak; her sister Katherine Kochalyk; her brothers Harry and Mike Husiak; her first husband Michael Daciw and her son James Daciw.

Pearl is survived by her husband Dmytro; her daughter Marilyn (Larry) Clausen and her only granddaughter April Clausen, as well as nieces and nephews.

The family expresses heartfelt thanks for the compassionate care Pearl received by the staff on 2 North at Hogarth Riverview Manor. She truly appreciated the tender care she received.

Funeral Services for the late Mrs. Pearl Hrynchuk will be held on Monday, July 25, 2016 at 10:00am in St. Volodymyr's Ukrainian Orthodox Church, celebrated by Father Lubomyr Hluchaniuk. Interment will follow in Mountainview Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday evening from 6:00pm until 8:00pm in the WESTFORT CHAPEL, 420 West Gore Street at James, with Panachyda offered at 7:00pm.

Should family and friends desire, donations may be made in memory of Pearl to St. Volodymyr's Church or the Alzheimer Society of Thunder Bay.
