Mr. Patrick Henry Otway age 88 years, a resident of Hogarth Riverview Manor passed away peacefully at Hogarth Riverview Manor on Tuesday, September 7th, 2021. Born in Fort William, he was a lifelong resident of the city. Patrick attended school at St. Mary’s, St. Patrick’s and Vocational Institute.

Patrick was married for 65 years to Arlysse Sponarski from Rainy River, ON. He worked for the M.T.O. (Surveys and Plans Section) for 36 years, retiring in March 1989. He later worked for FEDEX for 9 years.

He enjoyed curling and golf, where he was an active member of Chapples Men’s Club. Patrick was a lifelong member of St. Patrick’s Cathedral where he was a lector for 20 years. He volunteered with Catholic Action and the Heart & Stroke Foundation. Travelling was a passion for Arlysse and Patrick, they enjoyed trips to Portugal, Italy, the Yucatan, Corpus Christi, Texas. He also made many trips to B.C. to visit his daughter, son-in-law and grandson.

Patrick will be lovingly remembered by his wife Arlysse, son Patrick M., daughter Josanne (Phil Hay) of Vancouver, B.C., grandson Fergus Hay of Vancouver, B.C., sister Joan Janik (George Rusnick), sister Marly Pechiwa (Bernie), and sister Mimi Otway of Victoria, B.C. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

He was predeceased by his parents Patrick and Marguerite Otway.

Cremation has taken place and a Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, September 29, 2021 at 11:00 am in St. Patrick’s Cathedral, celebrated by Rev. Msgr. P.M. Stilla. Interment to follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery. Should friends desire, memorial donations to the Alzheimer Society of Thundery Bay or the TBRHSF- Hearts at Home would be appreciated. As per Covid-19 Protocols all attendee’s must wear a mask and provide contact information.

The family would like to thank the caring doctors, nurses and support staff of Daffodil for the wonderful care and support Patrick received.
