Finlay
It is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our father, husband, grandpa, brother and friend who left us peacefully on Tuesday, June 5, 2018 after a short but courageous battle with cancer.

Paul David Finlay was born Dec. 1, 1952 in Port Arthur, Ontario to James and Loretta Finlay. The family lived on N. Syndicate Ave where Paul grew up until he met the love of his life Susan Ainsworth. The two married May 15, 1976 and together they raised three daughters Jennifer, Erin and Andrea.

Paul attended Confederation College to take Mechanical Engineering Technology which led him into a long and successful career at Can Car/Bombardier for over 30 years.

He was a long-time member and past president of the Fort William Curling Club. The club was a place where Paul could often be found and where he made many lifelong friends.

Paul’s second passion was found on the golf course and he cherished this time with his golf buddies.

During his retirement, Paul and Sue were able to enjoy numerous trips with friends and family. They travelled for hockey tournaments, enjoyed the sunshine in tropical destinations and had an epic family trip to Italy. First and foremost Paul was a family man. A loving and caring husband, patient and kind father, adoring and playful grandpa, humble and proud younger brother, and loyal friend. His family was his priority and his greatest accomplishment. Whether it was getting the boys to hockey practice and games, picking up the kids from school, being the “pool boy” for his daughters in the backyard, or just enjoying some peace and quiet with his best bud Rhubarb, these are the simple things he enjoyed the most. He had a strong faith, and was a member of the Redwood Park Church. His devotion and prayers to god is what helped him through his final days and made him rest easy knowing he was going to be with his maker.

Paul was predeceased by his mother Loretta in 1995, and his father James in 2001 and numerous Aunts and Uncles. He is survived by his wife Susan, daughters Jennifer (Steve), Erin (Ryan), Andrea (Ryan), his seven grandchildren Mitch and Brayden Vanderwey, Clara and Colin Caruso, Lydia, Hudson and Juliet Landgraff, his brothers Jim (Trish) Finlay, and Terry (Irene) Westlake. Also by his Mother and Father in law, Gerald and Doreen Ainsworth, brothers and sister in laws, Ken (Ardina), Ron (Nancy), and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to give a special thank you to the nurses and staff of 1A at TBRHCS, Dr.Bezanson and Dr. Miller who helped make his final days a little easier with their kind and gentle care. Paul felt like a pretty special guy to have the best attention possible. Thank you to our friends from Redwood Park Church for their ongoing support and pastoral care. We would also like to express our sincere gratitude to our family and friends who have been with us on this difficult journey.

Funeral services will be held at Redwood Park Church on Monday, June 11, 2018 at 10:30 a.m.

If so desired, donations to a charity of your choice in Paul‘s name would be appreciated.
