It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beautiful and loving boy, Paul Francis McLean, age 24 years, a resident of Thunder Bay, on Saturday, March 13th, 2010, surrounded by his family, after fighting a courageous two year battle with cancer. Paul is now at peace.

The first and most important thing in Paul’s life was his family and friends. Paul’s family always brought him the greatest happiness and he made every effort to attend all family functions, even when his illness made it extremely difficult. He had a kind heart and a gentle soul. Paul was a selfless individual who always put others ahead of himself. Throughout his entire life, even when battling his illness, Paul always maintained tremendous strength and courage.

Paul was born on May 22, 1985 at the Port Arthur General Hospital and was the youngest of three siblings. From the time Paul learned to dress himself, he was forever changing his clothes in front of the mirror, ever the actor at a young age. His creativity carried through to high school where he could captivate an audience with his flare and natural talent for public speaking.

He began his school years at Corpus Christi, continued on to E.Q. Jennings and graduated from P.A.C.I. He developed a love for wrestling in high school and demonstrated exceptional skill, often to the surprise of his opponents. Paul’s interest in bodybuilding was inspired by his older brother Russell. These eventually led to his interests in mixed martial arts, and demands for his skills as a personal trainer. In furthering his education, Paul studied Pre Health and Kinesiology in order to pursue his passion as a personal trainer. His diagnosis with cancer during his second year at Lakehead University interrupted his studies. Above all, Paul exemplified the purest qualities of the human spirit by always doing the right thing and living his life with integrity.

Paul will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his parents Frank and Mary McLean; sister Sylvia; brother Russell; Nana Sylvia Conci; Zizie (aunt) Anita and Uncle Chris Ferguson; cousins, Christopher and Jenessa; Zizio (uncle) Terry and Zizie Louisa Conci; cousins Sylvia and Jimmy; Zizie Debbie and Uncle Don Hayes; cousins Mitchell, Carter and Austin, God Parents Ed and Mary-Ann Carr; cousins Jason and Jerry, and Paul’s guardian angels Flori and Kelly along with many other loving relatives. Paul was predeceased by his Nonno Emilio Conci and grandparents Russell and Katherine McLean.

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, March 18th, 2010, leaving the Harbourview Funeral Centre at 10:30 a.m. for Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m.

in St. Anthony’s Roman Catholic Church, 123 Hilldale Road, celebrated by Rev. Maurizio Maifredi. Interment will follow in St. Andrew’s Catholic Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Wednesday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with the Vigil Service beginning at 6:45 p.m. in the Chapel of Harbourview Funeral Centre, 499 North Cumberland Street.
