Mrs. Penelope "Penny" Belanger (nee Robinson), age 73 years, passed away peacefully, after a brief illness, on Wednesday, May 10, 2017 at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre with family by her side.

Penny was born on June 24, 1943 in Sioux Lookout, Ontario, the youngest daughter of Clifford and Bernadette Robinson. She attended elementary school in Sioux Lookout and later Port Arthur Technical and Vocational Institute (Hillcrest High) when her family was relocated to Thunder Bay for Clifford's work. It was in Thunder bay that she met the love of her life and married Wayne Belanger on July 21, 1962.

Penny spent many years working as a law clerk from Desimone Law and then MacGillivray, Porier, Mullen Law office before opening her own business (Tone-O-Matic) in 1988. In 1993 Penny and Wayne decided to retire and have enjoyed spending their winters in Arizona.

Her life was centered on her family, home, and neighbours, and she always marked family birthdays and special occasions with a celebration and special baking. She always had a ready tray of butter tarts or almond bark and often hosted and catered friend's birthday and anniversary parties just because she loved to do so, asking nothing in return. Her heart was filled with joy when surrounded by her family and friends. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren. She was so proud of all their accomplishments and always had a fond story to share of their times together.

Penny spent many years traveling and spending time at the cottage she, Wayne and their sons had built on Island Lake. Penny loved to sauna and swim the lake and it was here that she first introduced the grandchildren to swimming and fishing.
After selling the cottage, she and Wayne purchased a home in Mesa, AZ where they spent their winters golfing for the past 20 plus years. They established a network of friends who were more like family.

Penny is survived and will be deeply missed by husband Wayne, sons Doug (Lucy), Steve (Karen) of SK; grandchildren Douglas (Kelsey), Alyssa, Benjamin (Kellie), Riley and step-grandson Ricky. She is also survived by her sister Peggy, sister-in-law Anne, brother Robert (Linda), brother-in-law Walter (Pierina), sister-in-law Linda (Rick), and sister-in-law Dorothy.
She is also survived and remembered by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, cousins and many close family and friends who held a special place in her heart.

Penny was predeceased by brother Douglas Robinson, parents Clifford and Bernadette Robinson, step-mother Beatrice Robinson, and parents-in-law, Wallace and Edna Belanger.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, May 15, 2017, in the Chapel of Sargent & Son Funeral Home, 21 North Court Street celebrated by Rev. Jerin Louis. If friends so desire, donations may be made in Penny's memory to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation or to the Charity of your Choice.
