The family of Phil Dzuba, age 80 years, sadly announces the passing of their husband, father, Gigi and brother. Phil passed away peacefully at St. Joseph’s Hospice on May 25, 2017.

Phil was born in Port Arthur on November 6, 1936, and moved to Loon at a young age. He graduated from PACI and then worked at Geco Mine in Manitouwadge. He met his dancing partner and love of his life, Jannice, in 1959 at Mama Chubak's, and they were married in 1961. He was employed at Richardson's Terminals for 38 years, retiring as Supervisor in 1998.

Phil enjoyed living in Northwestern Ontario. When his children were young, summers were spent outdoors fishing and working the amethyst claims. His favourite activities were fishing (every day if he could), moose hunting every fall, and flying his ultralight plane with Norm Bain for many years at Kakabeka. Many memories were made traveling with the family and Jannice to Alaska, Florida, California, Mexico, Texas and Hawaii. In his retirement years, the hotspot location was Hinckley Casino, with a stop at Fleetfarm. Over the past few years, he enjoyed his "coffee club" group at the River Street Tim Horton's.

For many years, he was involved with the Current River Fish Club and Kakabeka Flying Club. He received his pilot's license in 1961.

Phil leaves behind his wife of 55 years, Jannice, daughter Cheryl (Tony Tassone), son Philip (Erica), six grandchildren, Amanda (Wes Kendall), Stacey, Gina, Tony, Alex and Abby, sister and brother-in-law Valma and Steve Harmatiuk, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Willie and Jean Fedoration, sister-in-law Donna Fedoration, and numerous nieces and nephews. Phil was predeceased by his parents Nick and Sylvia Dzuba, in-laws John and Michaeline Fedoration, brother-in-law Ronnie Fedoration, niece Susan Harmatiuk and his Siberian husky, Yuka.

Thank you to Dr. Webster for his years of care. Thank you to all the physicians, nurses, and most recently the palliative care team who also provided care to Phil.

Family and friends will gather in the Chapel of Harbourview Funeral Centre, 499 North Cumberland Street, on Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at 11:00 am for services presided by Rev. Ed Long. Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the service. Interment will take place at Riverside Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association, Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Kidney Foundation.
