Pietro (Peter) Sante Panontin

It is with heavy hearts and great sadness we announce the passing of our beloved father and nonno, Pietro (Peter) Sante Panontin, who passed away peacefully November 25, 2021 at Thunder Bay Regional Health Science Center with his loving wife at his side.

Peter was born May 30, 1935 in Meduna di Livenza, Province of Treviso. In June of 1953, he immigrated to Canada landing in Pier 21, with $20 in his pocket, in search of a better life. He planted roots in Fort William and met his wife Anna Maria ConSonego in 1959. They married February 20, 1960 and quickly brought four children into the world. Peter started his career as a brick and stone mason and in 1978, he started a successful and reputable family business, which still carries on today. Peter began as a member of St. Agnes Church and later Holy Family Church. He was also a member of the DaVinci Centre. Peter’s pride and joy was always his family. He enjoyed countless days with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren as his second home, North Lake.

Peter is survived by his wife Anna, his children Robert (Maria), John (Lillian), Larry (Vikki), Kathy (Danny), sister-in-law Silvana Panontin, brother-in-law Bruno (Carol) ConSonego, Flavio Campaner and many other nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his grandchildren Jessica, Jimmy, Matthew, Jenna, Stefanie, Shane, Julianna, Brandon and his 10 great grandchildren Madelyn, Sophia, Kendra, Aria, Ben, Amelia, Emma, Oliver, Mia and Matteo. Peter is predeceased by his parents Irene and Giovanni Panontin and his siblings Elda (Campaner), Luciana (Pasianotto), Pio and Catherine Panontin.

The family would like to thank all the doctors and medical staff who cared for him during his illness, and a special thank you to Dr. Heather McLean for the extra compassion and care.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 30, 2021 when family and friends will gather in St. Agnes R.C. Church at 11:00 am with Rev. James Panikulam presiding. Entombment to follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation for family and friends will be held one hour prior to service at the church.

The wearing of masks, hand sanitizing and PROOF OF VACCINATION is required to attend the Funeral Mass and Visitation. Memorial donations to Northern Cancer Research or a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
