It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Quirino Ferrato. He passed away peacefully, with his family by his side at the age of 94, on Friday, April 24th, 2015 while in the TBRHSC.
Quirino was born in St Stefano di Rogliano Cosenza Italy, on September 9th, 1920. In the hope of a more prosperous future, he immigrated to Port Arthur in 1967 with his wife and children.
Quirino and his wife Elena were happily married for 66 years. His first priority was always his family and he was loved and well respected by everyone.
Quirino had a love for gardening, his daily walks to the grocery store, and playing cards with his family.
His many conversations included reminiscing about his life in Italy and his days in the war. During every meal, Nonno always sat at the head of the table and made sure everyone had a full glass of wine. His sense of humor will also be remembered by his family through his witty remarks and playful personality.
Quirino spent the last 8 months of his life at Lakehead Manor. He was loved and respected by the staff and residents, and was known by everyone as “Nonno”. He was a loving husband, father, brother, Nonno, and friend.
Quirino is survived by his children; Mary (Branko) Ljubicic, Silvano Ferrato, Rose (Peter) Pileggi, Frank (Gina) Ferrato and Santino (Margaret) Ferrato; his grandchildren; Antonio (Candida) Gregorini, Liberata Gregorini, Daniella Gregorini, Elena Gregorini, Valeria Gregorini, Glen Ljubicic, Laura (Dave) Marshalok, Ellie (Angelo) Tucci, Angie (Walter) Morrison, Gina (John Thomas) Pileggi, Nadia Pileggi, Vince Pileggi, Elena (Joe) Quaresima, Nicole Holomego, Melissa (Fitzroy) Jacobs, Keith Krezonoski, Darren (Sam Karschti) Ferrato, and Sadie (Duran Gerow) Krezonoski; as well as by his 22 great grandchildren. He also leaves behind his sisters-in-law, Ines Nicoletti and Maria Coschi, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Quirino was predeceased by his wife Elena Ferrato, his daughter Teresa Ferrato (Gregorini), his parents Teresa & Santo Ferrato, his sister Ida Nicoletti, his brothers Giovanni, Ernesto, and Mario Ferrato, his brothers-in-law Mario Coschi and Eugenio Nicoletti.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday April 27th, 2015 in St. Anthony’s R.C. Chruch, 123 Hilldale Road, where a Funeral Mass will be celebrated by Father Luigi Filippini.
Visitation for family and friends will be held at the church, beginning at 12:00 PM. A private interment will be held at a later date. If friends so desire, donations can be made to either the Alzheimer ‘s Society or the Northern Cancer Fund.
