Mrs. Rachel LeGarde, 45 years, of Fort William First Nation passed away unexpectedly on Friday, January 06, 2017. Rachel was born in Nipigon, Ontario and was a member of Biinjitiwaabik Zaaging Anishinaabek (Rocky Bay).

She is predeceased by her husband, Alex LeGarde, her mother Bernadette Onakanakis, her in-laws Barbara and Percy LeGarde Sr. She is survived by her children Presley (Jack) Belhumeur, Travis Nakanagis, Alexis, Michaela, Braedon and Halle LeGarde of Fort William First Nation, her siblings Claudette (Dave), Renata (John), Raphael of Pays Plat, Roanna and Cheryl of Thunder Bay, her family pet dogs Gunner, Lewis and Rocky; numerous relatives of both the Nakanagis and LeGarde families.

Rachel worked for Fort William First Nation first as a bus monitor and then bus driver. She has touched many children’s lives and she will be sadly missed. Resting at her home at 105 Anemki Drive Fort William First Nation where friends may call after 5pm on Wednesday, January 11, 2017.

Prayers will be offered there at 7pm. The funeral mass for Rachel LeGarde will be held on Thursday, January 12, 2017 at 1:30pm at St. Anne’s Mission Church in Fort William First Nation celebrated by Reverend Larry Kroker s.j. Interment will be in Immaculate Conception Cemetery. Arrangements are in the care of Blake Funeral Chapel.

 Rachel LeGarde will be remembered in the Blake Funeral Chapel Memorial Grove.  Annual dedication service Sunday, June 10, 2018.
