The Reverend Howard (Howie) Mckay, 75, returned to his heavenly home on April 13, 2018 after a valiant battle with a long illness. His devotion to his family and his firm belief in God supported him in his struggle and ultimately gave him peace. His thoughts and prayers were always with family, friends and the community of Bearskin Lake.


Rev. Howard was born to the late John and Rachel Mckay in Bearskin Lake, Ontario on December 29, 1942. He was blessed with a large and loving family and is survived by his wife, Jessie; his sons Randy (Marlene), Wesley (Nicole), Willie (Yvonne) and Gideon (Karla); his daughters Sharon Angeconeb, Wendy Mckay,and Esther Mckay (John); his grandchildren Rachel (Carey), Brittany, Sabrina, Hannah Gayle, Isiah, Hailey, Liam, Cainon, David, Jessie, Katrina, Bethany, Jecinta, Cloud and Macy; his great-grandchildren Annie and Rubina. He is also survived by his brothers Chief Rodney Mckay (Edna), Henry (Phyllis) and sisters Julie Mckay and Joyce Mckay as well as numerous nephews, nieces and cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents; and his nephew Jarrett Mckay.


Viewing will be held at St. Paul’s Anglican Church in Thunder Bay from 10-11am on Tuesday, April 17th followed by the funeral service at 11am. Reception will follow. Interment will take place in Bearskin Lake First Nation on Wednesday April,18th. If desired, memorial donations can be made to Parkinson Superwalk.
