It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Richard “Alphonse” Cormier, age 83, on the morning of March 30, 2021, at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Center. He was the loving husband of Audrey for 56 wonderful years.

Richard was born in Bathurst, New Brunswick, the 3rd eldest child of Alphonse and Melinda Cormier. He attended school in Bathurst and then in Red Rock ON, after the family moved there for work.

Richard started working at the local mill in Red Rock at the age of 16. He met Audrey early on, and they had a lifelong love affair, marriage and friendship. He and Audrey moved to Thunder Bay after retirement.

Richard was a member of Christ Lutheran Evangelical Church. He loved singing praises to our Lord. A special favorite was “Joy to the World”. He loved to hunt and fish, and be outdoors. Working at their summer camp at Polly Lake and visiting with family and friends was a favorite time.

He will be remembered for his kindness and sense of humour. He was always there for you when you needed him and would help out anyone in need.

Richard is survived by his wife Audrey; son Steven and wife Nicole and granddaughter Kendall; brothers William and Gord; sisters Martina, Patsy (Gordon), Victoria (Bim) and Brenda (Leland). As well as many nieces and nephews whom he loved so much.

He was predeceased by parents, Alphonse and Melinda, brother Robert and sister Joan.

The family wishes to thank all the dear friends that have supported us in so many ways at this sad time as well as the medical staff at TBRHSC and Dr. Noy for helping Richard through his last moments.

Due to current Covid-19 restrictions, a service will take place at a later date with a notice of date and time to follow. Funeral arrangements are entrusted with Harbourview Funeral Centre.
