November 11, 1948 – August 4, 2025

Richard Holland Latham, affectionately known as “Poncho” to his friends and loved ones. Poncho was born on November 11, 1948 in Kenora and passed away peacefully on August 4, 2025 in Thunder Bay after a courageous battle with cancer.

Poncho’s life was a testament to his intelligence, thoughtfulness and kindness. He was a proud surveyor who lent his expertise to numerous projects across Northwestern Ontario. His work was not just a job; it was a passion that allowed him to leave a tangible mark on the land he loved so dearly. Poncho’s dedication to his profession was paralleled only by his devotion to his family.

He is survived by his loving spouse, Shirley Shebobman, his brothers Kerry and bill, daughter Jodie, Son Jamie and a legacy carried on through his grandchildren, Nathan, Kassidy, Joseph, Jaelynn, Kaleb, Emersyn, Keaton, Kaysen and his great-grandson, Kallex. Each of them brought great joy and pride to Poncho’s life.

He had a deep love for his farm, a place where he found peace and solace, enjoying the simpler pleasures of life. His love for a cold beer at the end of a long day became a well known facet of his character.

As we say farewell to Poncho, we reflect on a man whose life was full of love and achievement, and genuine kindness. His impact on the world around him was significant and the void left by his passing is felt deeply by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

A Celebration of Life will be held from 1PM-6PM on Friday, September 5, 2025 in the Westfort Prosvita – 721 Gore Street West.
