It is with heavy hearts and sadness we announce the passing of our Son, Brother, Uncle and very good Friend to many, Rick Newbold.

Rick passed away at his home, to his wishes, after a short battle with cancer on December 27, 2019. Rick may not have lived a long life, but he lived life to its fullest. He was never married but his feline family, Louise and Mitzi brought him great joy. He also had many, many friends along his journey who he loved like his family. Rick lived most of his life in Thunder Bay with the exception of a few years in BC and Nipigon, Ontario. He worked a few jobs, Canada Car, Domtar Packaging and for stints on the Pipeline until his debilitating back disease kept him from further work. Rick’s favourite pass times were fishing the Nipigon River and Lake Nipigon. He enjoyed relaxing at home watching Nascar Racing and the Golf channel which he referred to as the “Green Screen”. Rick was usually up for visiting friends and sometimes he referred to himself as “Dr. Rick” listening to all the girl friends issues. Rick was predeceased by both sets of grandparents and his 2 favorite cats, Louise and Mitzi.

He is survived by his father George Newbold; mother and stepfather Geri and Rene Blanchette; brothers Bob (Ann) Newbold and Ken (Laureen) Newbold; sisters Penny (Brian) Young and Jodi (Gordie) Belanger; four step sisters Judy (Gary) Thorsteinson, Cheryl Carbert, Molly (Avery) Blanchette and Heather Blanchette; nephews and nieces Joel Ferguson, Tricia Newbold, Bobbi Paquette, Trevor Atkinson, Dane Newbold, Keith Young, Melissa Dagenstein, Candace and Josh Belanger.

The family would like to thank the Palliative Team and his close friends who made his last days as comfortable as possible. Cremation has taken place and by Rick’s wishes, there will be no Funeral Service but a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Once a date and place is established we will let family and friends know.
