Riitta Helena Kemppainen

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our mother Riitta Helena (nee Hautala) Kemppainen, age 67, at the TBRHSC with family by her side.

Riitta was born on July 15, 1951 in Finland. Her family came to Canada later that year when she was only months old. First living in Nipigon, then moving to Thunder Bay in 1958 where she grew up. She worked at Peoples Co-Op in the meat department for years and as a seamstress at Milani’s. She enjoyed camping and spending time with family.

Riitta will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her son Kari (Kim) and daughter Eija (Jay); grandchildren Kenzie, Kolton, Karter and Tryniti; twin sister Pirjo; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends.
She was predeceased by Olli Kemppainen, Lyle Dunning, parents Sulo and Helena Hautala and brother Olavi Hautala.

Cremation has taken place. Family and friends are welcome to gather for a memorial celebration of Riitta’s life on Friday, December 7, 2018 at 12:30 p.m. at Hilldale Lutheran Church, 321 Hilldale Road, presided by Rev. Nancy Ringham. Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Riitta’s memory to a charity of choice.
