It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Robert Deutscher, husband of Ingeborg (Inge) on February 28, 2017 at the Thunder Bay Regional Hospital with his family by his side.

Robert was born on April 10, 1928 in Schweinfurt, Germany. He worked as a forester in Germany from his early teens until he immigrated to Canada in 1951. He worked in various logging camps in Ontario and British Columbia. He then settled in Thunder Bay where he met his wife Inge and they were married on August 16, 1956. Eventually they settled in Terrace Bay, Ontario where they resided on Princess Avenue. Robert worked for Kimberly Clark Pulp and Paper Mill in different positions, the last being as a security guard at the front gate, until his retirement.

Robert very much enjoyed the outdoors. His greatest passion was his large vegetable garden and his beautiful flower garden. His family looked forward to his large crop of potatoes each year. He also loved to watch the birds that came to his feeders and bird houses. Hunting and fishing were also activities he enjoyed. Robert had a great love for his pets especially his dogs Trapper and Bigsby. He was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose for many years.

Robert is survived by his wife Inge, his children Rose Spoljarich (Reg), Linda Buitenhuis, Pamela Deutscher (Jim), his grandchildren Sabina, Ian, Derek, Alyssa, Joshua, and Victoria and his great grandchildren Noah and Kase. He is also survived by his sisters Else (Paul), Inge (Fritz), his nephew Robert (Elke) and his best friend Rudy Zorn.

He was predeceased by his only son (Hans) Peter Deutscher in 2005 and his parents Edmund and Franziska.

His family would like to thank the PSWs of Paramed, Sharan from Nurse Next Door, the staff at Sister Leila Greco, and the nurses of 3B at Thunder Bay Regional Hospital for all their wonderful care. We would also like to thank all of our Mom and Dad’s neighbours and friends for all their help over the years.

Cremation has taken place and interment will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Terrace Bay Humane Society or the Thunder Bay Humane Society would be greatly appreciated.

A Memorial tree will be planted in Robert’s name in Terrace Bay.
