It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that the family announces the passing of Robert James Hansen (Jim), age 66 years with his family by his side at the TBRHSC on Saturday August 5, 2017. Jim was born in Port Arthur, Ontario on April 7, 1951, the eldest son of Kaj and Audrey Hansen.

Jim attended Algonquin Public School and Hammarskjold High School. Jim had a great work ethic and during his teen years was employed by Gibson Motors, where his Dad worked as a mechanic, as a parts delivery clerk. He loved that job because he was able to be out and about. After high school Jim obtained part-time employment as a summer student with the Ministry of Environment where he went on to have a thirty-four year career as an Environmental Officer, retiring in May of 2007. Jim was well known and respected by colleagues, friends and the community for his decision making skills, take charge no nonsense approach to handling issues that other people would shy away from. If you wanted things done right call Jim.

In his younger years Jim was an avid baseball player, being the star pitcher for the slow pitch league. He also enjoyed curling and this year was drawn back to the game entering his specially selected team and winning the whole tournament. His love of the outdoors, fishing, hunting, photography, growing his special tomato plants and tending to the garden at camp to ensure Mom's poppies brought her great pleasure were just some of the things which brought Jim joy. Spending time at the family camp at Moonlight Beach, being with family, helping his friends and neighbours with whatever needed to be done or just spending time his son Jeremy and special grandson Ryder brought him immense pleasure. Spending time with his buds John, Ross, Richard and Drew made his day. He was a people person.

Jim will be deeply missed by his wife Marsha, son Jeremy and his wife Chantell, his special grandson Ryder who brought him so much joy, Uncle Tony Hansen, Aunt Evelyn Hansen, mother in-law Lucy Wood, brother and sister in-laws, Larry and Alexis Wood, Sharon and Richard Czaczkowski, Eric and Tammy Wood, as well as by nieces and nephews and other relatives.

Jim was predeceased by his parents Kaj and Audrey Hansen, brother John, grandparents Marius and Gerda Hansen, Robert and Florida Riley, aunts and uncles, Roger, Jimmy and Barry Riley, Signe and Rudy Rentz, Toots and Gilbert Gerow, Shirley and Gordon Adams, father in-law Duncan Wood, sister in-law Diana Kay and brother in-law Allan Wood.

Cremation has taken place and funeral services will be held on Monday August 14, 2017 at 11:00 am at St. Michael & All Angels Anglican Church with Rev. Gordon Holroyd officiating. Interment will be held at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
