Robert (Robbie) Wrightsell, age 85 years, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 15, 2015 at Dawson Court.

Born in Port Arthur on March 26, 1930, Robbie’s early life was spent with his parents Lamonte and Ivy Wrightsell and his four brothers and sisters.  He developed a love for sports at an early age.

Robbie particularly loved the game of hockey. He played for a number of teams, both here and in Southern Ontario where he also had the opportunity to work at Bauer skate factory. Robbie’s greatest hockey achievement was winning the 1948 Memorial Cup with the West end Bruins.

After the end of his hockey career, Robbie went to work at Northern Wood Preservers, where he worked at a number of different positions before becoming a sub-foreman.  He made many life-long friends there. After retiring from Northern Wood, Robbie spent a number of years “working” at McKevitt Trucking with his great friends John McKevitt.

Robbie married his wife Edith on April 7, 1951.  Their son, Robin, was born 8 years later.  With Robbie, family and friends always came first.  He derived great satisfaction from the successes of his family and friends.  He was always quick to lend a hand with their various endeavours and home improvement projects.  He also enjoyed passing on his knowledge and experience to his son.

Robert is survived by his wife Edith, son Robin (Pamela), brother Cyril, and sisters Irene Law and Shirley Leader, and numerous nieces and nephews.  Robert was predeceased by his parents Lamonte and Ivy and his brother Gordon.

We would like to thank the staff at Dawson Court for the wonderful care and compassion they gave to Robbie.  They made a difficult time just a bit easier.

Cremation has taken place and a Memorial service celebrating the life of Robert Wrightsell will be held on Tuesday, April 12, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Harbourview Funeral Centre, 499 Cumberland St., North with Rev. Gordon Holroyd officiating. Interment in Riverside Cemetery will follow the reception. Memorial donations to the Alzheimers Society would be appreciated by the family.
