It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Robert Sloan, aged 61. He passed away peacefully at St. Joseph’s Hospice Care Group surrounded by loving family and prayer group on Thursday September 14, 2017 after a courageous battle with multiple myeloma.

Born on August 19, 1956 in Quebec, the eldest of Terry and Irene’s children, the family moved to Thunder Bay in 1967 where he established lifelong roots and made his career as a machinist at Resolute Forest Products.

Robert was devoted to his wife and family and could rarely be found without them by his side. They often spent time fishing, skiing and enjoying each other’s company on the front porch. He was an active member of Corpus Christi Parish serving as a Lector, Eucharistic Minister and Knight of Columbus for many years. Robert had a big heart and spent many of his hours praying with the residents of Pioneer Ridge along with his family.

A devoted father and husband, he will be dearly missed by his wife of 24 years, Salma (nee Mounayer); sons Michael, Mathew, Mark; brother Louis (Claude Beaudoin); sister Maureen (Gavin Shuell); Brothers-in-law Bob Edgar; Naji Mounayer (Caroline); Ghassan Mounayer (Amal); Sister-in-law Rima Mounayer (Kevin White); Mother-in-law May Mounayer; several nieces and nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.

He is predeceased by his parents Terry and Irene; his sister Jo-Anne Edgar and Father-in-law Gabriel Mounayer.

The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at the Thunder Bay Regional Hospital 1A for their exceptional and excellent care, kindness and support; Dr. Simpson, Dr. Sicheri and Dr. Laferriere.

Funeral services for the late Robert Sloan will be held Wednesday, September 20, 2017 leaving the Sargent & Son Funeral Home at 10:30 a.m. to Corpus Christi R.C. Church for Funeral Mass beginning at 11:00 am, celebrated by Rev. Victor DeGagne. A private interment will follow at St. Andrew’s Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Tuesday evening from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm in the Chapel of the Sargent & Son Funeral Home, 21 N. Court Street with Vigil Prayers being offered at 7:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Thunder Bay Regional Hospital Cancer Clinic.
